Botox is used for both cosmetic and medical purposes. It is made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and works by preventing movement in certain muscles. Cosmetically, Botox is used to soften and prevent wrinkles and medically it is used to treat eye spasms or muscle disorders. Common locations for injections include the forehead, 11 lines, and crows feet. The effects of Botox are seen three days after treatment and typically last three months. 


Medically, we also inject Botox for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in our office. Botox can be injected to the axilla, palms and soles to help prevent sweating. Treatments require multiple injections and are repeated every three months. Some people have even claimed using Botox has helped with their depression.
